I would like to ask how do people buy cheap airline tickets?

You ask a very good question, if anyone tells you the trick please tell me too

Do alot of research. Visit multiple websites. Don’t believe everyone who tells you they got the same ticket as you for less. Even though you may be seated next to someone on a flight, their origination/destination point may be different than yours. Sometimes, bu trarely, after purchasing a ticket the fare for the same trip may go down as a result of a sale. If this happens you can , in most cases, call the airline and get the difference on a travel voucher good towards a future trip.

this site searches over 200 travel sites to bring back more results and most of the time, the lowest prices….I guess you can always check it out…it takes a couple minutes and could save you a lot of time in the long run:

Search for them at specialized websites such as

Plan well and buy your ticket well in advance. Airlines offer special rates to early buyers though there are a few strings attached to such low fares.

A lot of it is luck. If you’re flexible about travel dates and times, travel at off-peak times and go during the off-season. For example, red-eye (overnight) flights are often cheaper. Also, go during off-season if possible. For example, fares from where I live (Boston) to Europe during the summer are at least twice as expensive as they are during the winter (with the exception of Christmas). Or, going to Florida during August is far cheaper than in February or March, probably a fraction of the price. This is basically supply and demand – people want to go to Florida when they’re sick of the snow up north and get spring break week to go somewhere, but nobody wants to go in August when it’s hot and humid and hurricane-ridden. Basic supply and demand. But, I digress. Be as flexible as possible and go when demand is lowest. Also, booking through the airline directly is probably the best option – most sites like expedia or travelocity all charge booking fees which is stupid to pay. And they very rarely have lower fares than the airlines’ own websites. Also check the “low-fare” airlines, such as Southwest. Keep in mind that these are not always the cheapest flights though. And also keep in mind the total cost of getting to the airport and everything – for example, Southwest doesn’t fly out of Boston – only out of Providence or Manchester, each an hour away. Even if I save $20 by flying Southwest, I would pay more than that to get to Providence or Manchester than I would save by flying Southwest… so keep those costs in mind too.
